Regulatory Interpretation and Impact Assessment

Companies struggle to interpret complex regulations and assess their impact, particularly when operating in different jurisdictions. To interpret regulations accurately and assess their impact on the business requires specialised knowledge – the risk of misinterpretation is grave, as it can lead to inconsistent compliance – an enormous business risk.

Regulated entities must manage vast amounts of data, which can slow down reporting and make it harder to maintain accuracy. Manual processes and outdated systems can add another layer of complication and hassle to regulatory reporting.

Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) compliance can be hindered by inconsistent reporting standards (both across industries and jurisdictions), complex, ever-changing regulations, and the huge quantity of data usually housed across different systems that need to be collated and managed.

Cybercrime threats are continually evolving, with targets as varied as governments, hospitals, banks and individuals. The labour shortage of cybersecurity professionals coupled with the need for continuous monitoring and updating of security measures means maintaining cyber security is an ongoing job and big risk for businesses.

Stakeholders demand high performance and high transparency against a backdrop of ever-changing regulations and enforcement, as more and more third-party players enter supply chains. Connecting and integrating governance, risk management, and compliance processes is necessary but complex, needing coordination across different departments and continuous monitoring.

The pace of regulatory change is breathtaking – in 2017 Thomson Reuters Regulatory Intelligence captured 56,321 regulatory alerts from more than 900 regulatory bodies worldwide, averaging 216 updates a day. Consequently the amount of time businesses must spend identifying and preparing for emerging regulatory changes is significant.

The volume of data businesses are required to keep as well as the need for real-time updates means managing and maintaining accurate regulatory data can be challenging.

Many organisations, not just those in regulated industries, are required to do and share risk calculations with regulators. Calculating regulatory risks satisfactorily involves using complex models, which also require specialist expertise and robust systems to ensure accurate, timely reporting.

All organisations must be clear on what regulations they have to abide by to operate compliantly; the challenge for multinational organisations is to be clear and compliant on which regulations that apply to them in each jurisdiction as well as at the corporate level.

Adjacent to horizon scanning for changes in the regulatory environment is ensuring compliance with new regulations when they come into force. Regulatory change assurance requires a lot of time and effort: horizon scanning, translating new regulatory requirements into updated processes, and training and re-training staff as things change.

Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Know Your Business (KYB), and Know Your Customer (KYC) regulations require thorough customer verification processes, which can be time-consuming and costly.

Implementing AI for compliance comes with its own set of challenges like ensuring algorithmic transparency, avoiding biases, and meeting ever-changing regulatory standards.

Companies must abide by complex data protection laws that change from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, manage consent and data subject rights, as well as secure the data against breaches. All these activities are non-negotiable and time and resource-intensive.

When organisations must comply with multiple regulations and reporting mandates, it makes sense to streamline and integrate systems and processes where possible. However doing this is usually a major project or series of projects, complex and expensive to achieve.

Translating all applicable regulations into actionable business controls requires a deep understanding of both the regulations and the company’s operations.

Monitoring financial firms and their employees’ trading activities helps detect and prevent illegal and unethical trading practices including insider trading, market manipulation, fraud, money laundering, speculation and unsuitable investments. For trading institutions, submitting to trade surveillance is a non-negotiable aspect of doing business.

In today’s business environment so much is done digitally. Services that offer authentication and verification of digital identity must be secure and comply with all applicable laws and regulations. Keeping up with consistently evolving technologies, the risks associated with holding and processing digital identification documents, and constant updates to regulatory requirements mean this is an area fraught with risk.

For some organisations, managing customer conduct is a regulatory requirement. This involves monitoring and ensuring compliance with conduct regulations, which can be complex.

Being tax compliant has several aspects: navigating complex tax regulations; ensuring accurate reporting of taxes and arranging payment of all applicable taxes. This is especially challenging for multinational companies or entities looking to break into new markets and therefore start operating in new tax jurisdictions.

Global supply chains are becoming ever more convoluted. The reputational risk to brands with non-compliant suppliers is great. Ensuring third party suppliers are not committing illegal or unethical acts during their business is critical.

So how do we do it?

Whatever your goal, these are the secret weapons we bring to the table:

We sift through an average of 31 applicants to find just one Business Discovery Agent (BDA). Everyone we bring on board goes through two weeks of intense training, focused on the GRC tech space, including InsurTech, CyberTech and RegTech, giving them solid knowledge of what keeps these specific buyers up at night. They then receive on-the-job training and 1:1 coaching for the next 14 weeks through their probation. We take pride in looking after everyone we work with – having a happy, motivated team means better results for our clients.

The Gungho database is unique, proprietary, constantly cleansed and exclusively populated with risk & compliance decision-makers. As of June 2025, it holds verified details of around 800,000 contacts in 210 jurisdictions. We never buy lists; we build them ourselves; we have the expertise in-house to research, find and verify relevant customers across the globe, so our clients don’t have to.

Our unique shift patterns and office locations allow us to call across all time zones so we can make sure no stone gets left unturned when it comes to lead generation. Supporting many languages and understanding the nuances of the local markets means that wherever your prospects are we can reach them.

When an organisation starts working with us, we spend time calibrating, testing and tweaking the campaign based on the responses we’re getting from risk & compliance tech buyers. We keep our clients updated with weekly calls and reports, and work with them to land on a rock-solid, stress-tested go-to-market strategy. At the end of the calibration period we move forward with the strategy, confident it will work because we’ve tested it in the real world with real buyers.

We understand your buyers. That’s why we’re proven sales partners for B2B technology vendors tackling challenges around risk, compliance and resilience.

Data directly from third party providers cannot be fully trusted. It’s the fact that our calling teams put in over five million touch points a year to maintain and use our data that makes our data work.

This means it’s always updated and relevant for our clients, removing the risk of expired data being used and enhancing the data provided by clients or third parties.
